Simplicity 2177

This is an odd page, not actually showing the completed dress. The dress is hanging on the dress form waiting to be hemmed. I hate hemming. I really hate it. No, really. This dress will wait awhile before being hemmed. I love the fabric I used here; it’s a digital print linen from Downtown Fabrics, here in Toronto’s garment district. (I think it’s my favourite shop there!) Because it is linen, it is wonderful to work with: takes stitches beautifully and presses beautifully. Because it is linen, it wrinkles easily and has to press beautifully. I have to say, this dress is not so bad with the wrinkling. I underlined it with silk organza and lined it with rayon bemberg. I was very pleased with myself for the clean machine finish of the bodice, using this tutorial from the Slapdash Sewist. I even took a picture! I will get it hemmed and show the complete dress, eventually…
